For the Dough:
- 1 cup warm water not hot
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons olive oil divided
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Sauce and Toppings:
- 1 cup crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded gouda cheese
- 18 to 20 slices pepperoni
Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water and 2 teaspoons of sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar, then sprinkle 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast over the surface of the water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 teaspoons of olive oil to the bowl. Mix until a dough begins to form. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
Prepare the Sauce
While the dough is rising, prepare the pizza sauce. In a separate bowl, mix together 1 cup of crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Set aside.
Assemble the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and place it on a floured surface. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to your desired thickness, keeping in mind that thinner crusts will be crispier.
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Transfer the rolled-out dough to a piece of parchment paper. Spread the prepared sauce evenly over the crust, leaving a small border for the crust. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and 1 cup of shredded gouda cheese on top, followed by the 18 to 20 slices of pepperoni.
Serve
After cooking, carefully remove the pizza from the air fryer. Allow it to cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve. Enjoy your homemade Air Fryer Pizza from Scratch with your favorite dipping sauces or toppings!
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the air fryer for best results.
- Use gluten-free flour or vegan cheese to customize the recipe for dietary needs.
- To prevent soggy crust, spread sauce thinly and avoid overloading toppings.
- If dough is too sticky, add flour gradually while kneading until manageable.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, bake the pizza in a conventional oven at 475°F (245°C) for 12-15 minutes.
