Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Sharp knife or mandoline
  • Cutting Board
  • Bowl
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 large russet potato very thinly sliced (about 1/16 of an inch)
  • 1 spray grapeseed oil cooking spray or any high-heat oil spray (avoid olive oil)
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Potato

  • Start by washing the russet potato under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat it dry with a clean towel. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline, slice the potato very thinly, aiming for about 1/16 of an inch. The thinner the slices, the crispier your chips will be!

Step 2: Season the Slices

  • Place the potato slices in a bowl. Lightly spray the slices with grapeseed oil cooking spray, ensuring they are evenly coated. Add a pinch of sea salt and toss the slices gently to distribute the seasoning.

Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer

  • Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (182°C). This step ensures an even cooking temperature right from the start.

Step 4: Cook the Chips

  • Arrange the potato slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overlapping to allow for optimal airflow and cooking. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Step 5: Air Fry the Chips

  • Air fry the potato slices for about 15 to 20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. Keep an eye on them towards the end to prevent burning, as cooking times may vary based on your air fryer model.

Step 6: Cool and Enjoy

  • Once the chips are golden and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes. This will help them maintain their crispness. Serve immediately or store for later snacking!

Notes

  • Slice potatoes as evenly and thinly as possible for a perfect crunch; a mandoline works best.
  • Watch the chips closely near the end of cooking to prevent burning.
  • Store leftover chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
  • Reheat chips in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes to restore crispness.
