Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Salad Tongs
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen crispy chicken strips
  • 1 package hearts of romaine salad 10-ounce
  • 8 ounces coleslaw mix
  • 15 ounce mandarin oranges canned, drained
  • 1/3 cup crispy chow mein noodles
  • 1/3 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  • Begin by preparing the frozen crispy chicken strips according to the package instructions. Once cooked, let them cool slightly, then slice them into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the hearts of romaine salad and the coleslaw mix. Toss them together gently to create a base that's both crunchy and flavorful.
  • Add the drained mandarin oranges to the greens. Sprinkle in the crispy chow mein noodles and sliced almonds, ensuring they're evenly distributed throughout the salad.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayo, honey, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, Dijon-style mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix until the dressing is smooth and well combined.
  • Pour the dressing over the salad mixture and toss gently until everything is coated. Finally, add the sliced chicken strips on top and give it one last gentle toss to incorporate them.
  • Serve the Applebees Chicken Salad immediately for the freshest taste, or chill it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to let the flavors meld together. Enjoy every crunchy, sweet, and savory bite!

Notes

  • Marinate chicken strips before cooking for extra flavor.
  • Customize by adding vegetables like bell peppers or avocado.
  • Substitute Greek yogurt for a lighter dressing option.
  • Drain mandarin oranges well to avoid soggy salad.
  • Prep ahead by keeping dressing separate and storing salad in airtight container up to 2 days.
