Instructions
Step 1: Gather all your ingredients, slice the onion, mince the garlic, and dice the apple.
Step 2: Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the bratwurst for about 5 minutes until browned.
Step 3: In the slow cooker, layer the sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom.
Step 4: Add the drained sauerkraut over the onions and garlic, then sprinkle the diced apple on top.
Step 5: Place the seared bratwurst on top of the sauerkraut and apples.
Step 6: In a small bowl, whisk together the lager beer, brown sugar, mustard, and caraway seeds, then pour over the bratwurst and sauerkraut.
Step 7: Cover and slow cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or high for 3 to 4 hours.
Step 8: Once cooked, serve the bratwurst alongside the sauerkraut and apples.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes or jalapeños. Substitute Honeycrisp apples with any sweet variety if needed.
