Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Fork or potato masher
  • Oven tray
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp Knife

Ingredients

  • 1 can tuna well drained
  • 2 cloves garlic minced or chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp breadcrumbs or flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 2-3 sprigs dill or parsley finely chopped

Instructions

Canned Tuna Meatballs: From Prep to Plate

  • Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures that your meatballs will cook evenly and develop a delightful golden crust.
  • In a mixing bowl, add the well-drained canned tuna. Use a fork or potato masher to break it up into smaller pieces. The texture should be flaky but not too fine.
  • To the tuna, add the minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs or flour, salt, pepper, and chopped dill or parsley. Mix everything gently but thoroughly until well combined. Be careful not to overmix; you want your meatballs to remain tender.
  • Using your hands, scoop out a portion of the mixture and roll it into a ball, about the size of a golf ball. Place the meatballs on an oven tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Pop the tray into the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the meatballs are golden brown and cooked through. You can turn them halfway through for even browning.
  • Once baked, remove the meatballs from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce or over pasta. Enjoy the delightful flavors of your Canned Tuna Meatballs!

Notes

  • Feel free to experiment with spices; a pinch of red pepper flakes can add a nice heat.
  • Fresh herbs work best, but dried herbs can be used in a pinch—just reduce the amount.
  • For a richer flavor, consider sautéing the garlic in a little olive oil before adding it to the mixture.
  • Substitute breadcrumbs with crushed crackers or gluten-free breadcrumbs for texture variation.
  • Use flaxseed meal mixed with water instead of egg for a vegan option.
