Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Cupcake liners
  • Cupcake Pan
  • Piping Bag
  • Microwave-safe Bowl
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 12 baked chocolate cupcakes (vanilla can be used as an alternative)
  • 12 chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 8 ounces chocolate frosting
  • 12 ounces orange candy melts
  • 12 large strawberries

Instructions

Step 1: Bake Your Cupcakes

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare your cupcake pan with liners and fill each liner with your chocolate cupcake batter. Bake according to the recipe instructions until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.

Step 2: Prepare the Frosting

  • While the cupcakes are cooling, take your chocolate frosting and give it a good stir to make it nice and fluffy. If you prefer homemade frosting, feel free to whip up your favorite chocolate frosting recipe.

Step 3: Crush the Cookies

  • Place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them into fine crumbs using a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy pan. Set aside for later use as the “dirt” in your carrot patch.

Step 4: Melt the Candy Melts

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the orange candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Be careful not to overheat, as this can cause the candy to seize up.

Step 5: Frost the Cupcakes

  • Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, use a piping bag or a spatula to generously frost each cupcake with the chocolate frosting. Be creative and make swirls or peaks to give your cupcakes a lovely texture.

Step 6: Add the Cookie Crumbs

  • Sprinkle the crushed chocolate sandwich cookies over the frosted cupcakes. This will create the look of dirt in your carrot patch.

Step 7: Decorate with Strawberries

  • Dip the ends of the large strawberries into the melted orange candy melts, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the strawberries upright in the cupcake “dirt” to resemble carrots growing in a garden.

Step 8: Enjoy!

  • Now that your Carrot Patch Cupcakes are decorated and ready to go, it's time to serve them up at your next gathering. Watch as everyone marvels at your beautiful creations and enjoys every last bite.

Notes

  • Bake cupcakes a day in advance and frost just before serving for best freshness.
