Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Medium Bowl
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • 9x13 inch Baking Dish
  • Aluminum Foil

Ingredients

  • 12 oz ziti pasta
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • turkey bacon cooked and crumbled (optional for extra flavor)

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the 12 oz of ziti pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined. This mixture will add creaminess and help bind the pasta together.
  • In a large mixing bowl, toss the cooked ziti pasta with the marinara sauce until each piece is coated evenly.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the sauced pasta. Dollop spoonfuls of the ricotta mixture over the pasta, then sprinkle with half of the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese. If using, scatter half of the crumbled turkey bacon on top. Repeat with the remaining pasta, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, Parmesan, and turkey bacon.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
  • Let the baked ziti cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. This rest time helps the cheese set slightly, making it easier to serve.

Notes

  • Cook the pasta al dente to avoid a mushy baked ziti texture.
  • The egg in the ricotta mixture helps bind the pasta and cheese together perfectly.
  • Let the baked ziti rest after baking so it sets and is easier to serve.
