- 1 egg beaten
- 1 tablespoon water
- 12 wonton wrappers defrosted (keep wrappers covered with a damp towel)
- 12 pieces or nuggets of chocolate choose your favorite type
- vegetable oil for frying
- confectioners sugar for sprinkling
Begin by gathering your chocolate pieces or nuggets. Use any type of chocolate you prefer, such as dark, milk, or white chocolate.
Lay out your defrosted wonton wrappers on a clean surface, keeping them covered with a damp towel to prevent drying.
In a small mixing bowl, combine the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of water to make an egg wash for sealing the wontons.
Place a piece of chocolate in the center of one wonton wrapper. Dab the edges with the egg wash using your finger or a pastry brush.
Fold the wrapper over the chocolate to form a triangle. Press the edges firmly to seal, and optionally crimp the edges with a fork.
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a frying pan or deep fryer over medium heat. Test readiness by dropping a small piece of wrapper in the oil; it should sizzle.
Fry wontons a few at a time for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Sprinkle fried wontons with confectioners sugar and serve warm. Enjoy the crispy exterior with a gooey chocolate center!
- Try different fillings like nut butter or fruit preserves for variety.
- Use spring roll wrappers if wonton wrappers are unavailable.
- For a healthier option, bake wontons at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes instead of frying.
- Make wontons ahead and freeze before frying; fry directly from frozen for convenience.
- Serve with ice cream, fresh berries, or drizzle with caramel or chocolate sauce for extra indulgence.
