Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon Baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
  • ½ cup Light brown sugar
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract

Coloring and Toppings

  • ½ teaspoon Red food coloring
  • ½ teaspoon Green food coloring
  • ½ cup Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients - Start by gathering all your ingredients at room temperature.
  • Step 2: Make the Cookie Dough - In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter with the light brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Step 3: Mix the Dry Ingredients - Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
  • Step 4: Divide and Color the Dough - Once your dough is ready, divide it in half. Leave one half plain and tint the other half using the red food coloring.
  • Step 5: Roll Out the Dough - On a piece of parchment paper, place the red dough and cover it with another piece of parchment paper. Roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
  • Step 6: Assemble the Pinwheels - Carefully peel off the top layer of parchment paper from the red dough. Place the green dough rectangle on top of the red.
  • Step 7: Preheat the Oven - When you are ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Step 8: Slice and Bake - Once your cookie dough log is chilled, remove it from the refrigerator. Cut the log into ¼ inch thick slices and place the slices on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Step 9: Enjoy! - Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Notes

Make sure your butter is truly softened; it should easily hold an indentation when pressed but not be melted.
