- 1 tablespoon olive oil for sautéing
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 1 pound ground turkey lean protein choice
- 28 fluid ounce can diced tomatoes with juices
- 7.2 fluid ounce can tomato sauce for added creaminess
- 2 dashes Italian seasoning for flavor
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil packed and chopped
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Parmesan cheese optional, for serving
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
Add the ground turkey to the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook for 5-6 minutes until no longer pink.
Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute to infuse the oil with aroma.
Add the diced tomatoes with juices and the tomato sauce. Stir to combine.
Sprinkle in the Italian seasoning and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer for 5-7 minutes to meld flavors.
Just before serving, stir in the chopped fresh basil for freshness.
Serve the sauce over cooked pasta of choice. Optionally, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
