Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package directions.
While the pasta cooks, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 medium onion, chopped, and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add 1 pound ground turkey to the skillet. Break it up with a spatula and cook until no longer pink, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir in 1 (28 fluid ounce) can diced tomatoes with juices, 1 (7.2 fluid ounce) can tomato sauce, 2 dashes Italian seasoning, 4 cloves garlic (minced), and 1/4 cup (packed) fresh basil (chopped). Increase heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Once it starts to bubble, reduce the heat to medium and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
Drain the pasta and divide among plates or bowls. Spoon the turkey bolognese over the pasta and serve with Parmesan cheese, if desired.
