Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Add the garlic, chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, lime juice (from 1/2 lime), salt, pepper, cumin (if using), and oil to a food processor or blender.
Blend until the garlic is finely minced and the mixture is combined, about 1 minute.
Slice the 1 lb salmon fillet into even portions (2–3 pieces) and place them skin-side down in a lined baking dish.
Rub the chipotle mixture all over the salmon, covering the top, sides, and skin side.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the salmon is just cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
Remove from the oven and serve with your choice of sides.
