- 1 package potato gnocchi (about 16 ounces)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 14 oz crushed tomatoes canned
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- fresh basil leaves for garnish
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the potato gnocchi and cook according to package instructions, usually until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
Pour in crushed tomatoes, stir in dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Let sauce simmer gently for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat to low and slowly stir in heavy cream. Add grated Parmesan cheese, stirring until cheese melts and sauce is creamy.
Add cooked gnocchi to the skillet and gently toss to coat with sauce. Cook together for 1-2 minutes to absorb flavors.
Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve immediately.
- Do not overcook gnocchi to avoid mushy texture; cook until they float.
- Sauté garlic just until fragrant to prevent bitterness.
- Stir in cream slowly on low heat to prevent curdling.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge up to 3 days; reheat gently.
- Try adding vegetables or proteins for variety and extra nutrition.
