Equipment

  • Cutting Board
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Plate

Ingredients

For the Russian Dressing:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon grated horseradish drained
  • 2 teaspoons finely minced onion
  • hot sauce a couple of dashes, optional

For the Sandwich:

  • 2 slices raisin pumpernickel bread
  • 6 slices smoked peppered turkey quality brand like Boar’s Head
  • 1 slice muenster cheese
  • 2 slices tomato fresh and juicy
  • 4 slices avocado creamy and rich
  • alfalfa sprouts a handful

Instructions

Prepare the Russian Dressing

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise, 1/4 cup of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of grated horseradish (drained), 2 teaspoons of finely minced onion, and a couple of dashes of hot sauce if you like a little kick. Mix well until all ingredients are combined and set aside.

Toast the Bread (Optional)

  • If you prefer a little crunch, lightly toast your slices of raisin pumpernickel bread. This adds texture and depth to the sandwich.

Assemble the Sandwich

  • Spread a generous layer of the homemade Russian dressing on one side of each slice of bread.
  • On one slice of bread, start layering with 6 slices of smoked peppered turkey. Follow with the slice of muenster cheese, then add the slices of tomato and avocado. Top it with a handful of alfalfa sprouts for that fresh crunch.
  • Place the other slice of bread on top, dressing side down. Press gently, slice the sandwich in half, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • If you prefer a different bread, try whole grain or rye as a substitute for raisin pumpernickel.
  • Substitute smoked turkey with roasted chicken or plant-based alternatives for variety.
  • Try replacing muenster cheese with provolone or gouda for a similar melt and flavor.
  • Keep the sandwich fresh by storing ingredients separately and assembling just before serving.
  • Add more veggies like cucumber, bell peppers, or shredded carrots for extra crunch and nutrition.
