Serving platter
- 1 lb jumbo shrimp deveined with tails on
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. This step helps to ensure the shrimp sear beautifully in the pan.
In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, cornstarch, and salt until smooth. This mixture will form the base of your delicious sauce.
In a large skillet or wok, heat the sesame oil over medium-high heat. Allow it to become hot but not smoking—this will give your shrimp a wonderful sear.
Add the shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until they turn pink and opaque. Flip them over and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.
Once the shrimp are cooked, pour the honey soy sauce mixture into the skillet. Stir well to coat the shrimp evenly. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and glazes the shrimp beautifully.
Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the Honey Sesame Shrimp to a serving platter. You can garnish it with sesame seeds or chopped green onions if desired. Serve immediately over cooked rice or alongside fresh vegetables.
- Do not overcrowd the skillet; cook shrimp in batches to get a good sear.
- Thaw frozen shrimp completely and pat dry before cooking to avoid excess water.
- Adjust honey amount to taste for sweetness preferences.
- Make the sauce ahead and refrigerate for up to a week for quick meal prep.
- Add red pepper flakes or sriracha for a spicy kick.
