  • Measuring Cups
  • Wooden Spoon or Spatula
  • Timer
  • Strainer or fine mesh sieve

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain brown rice Choose high-quality rice for the best flavor and texture.
  • 1 1/4 cups water This is the key to achieving the ideal fluffy consistency.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor of the rice.

Instructions

  • Begin by rinsing the brown rice under cold water using a strainer or fine mesh sieve for about 30 seconds to remove excess starch and impurities.
  • In a medium saucepan, measure out 1 1/4 cups of water. Adjust water quantity if you prefer softer rice.
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the water in the saucepan to enhance flavor and aid cooking.
  • Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan with the water and salt. Stir gently to distribute the rice evenly.
  • Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then reduce heat to low.
  • Cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes without lifting the lid.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 10 minutes to finish cooking and become fluffy.
  • Remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sauté garlic or onion before adding water and rice.
  • Experiment with different broths or spices to customize taste.
  • Adjust water ratio when cooking larger batches, maintaining 1:1¼ rice to water ratio.
  • Be patient as brown rice takes longer to cook than white rice.
  • Store cooked rice in airtight containers refrigerated for 4-5 days or freeze up to 3 months.
