Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups old-fashioned oats not quick cooking
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves optional
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled (1 stick)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup chocolate chips any type: milk, semi-sweet, or white

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cookies bake evenly and come out perfectly golden.
  • Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the old-fashioned oats, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground cloves (if using), and salt. Whisk until well blended.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the melted and cooled unsalted butter, pure vanilla extract, packed light brown sugar, granulated sugar, and the large egg until smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix; a few flour streaks are okay.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips of your choice until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy your delicious Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies warm or at room temperature!

Notes

  • Use fresh old-fashioned oats for the best texture and flavor.
  • Prepare cookie dough in advance by freezing dough balls for fresh cookies anytime.
  • Try adding chopped nuts or swapping chocolate chips for dried fruit for variety.
