Parmesan Basil Orzo

A creamy, savory orzo tossed with Parmesan and fresh basil for an easy, comforting side dish.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • lid for skillet

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 cups orzo
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat the large skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
  • Add the orzo and sauté, stirring frequently, until the orzo is golden brown, about 3–5 minutes.
  • Slowly pour in the chicken broth while stirring, then bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Cover the skillet, reduce heat to low, and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the orzo is tender and most of the broth is absorbed.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan and chopped basil until combined.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve warm.

Notes

  • Can substitute 2 tsp dried basil for fresh.
