Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Citrus Juicer
  • Measuring Spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 steaks salmon 1-inch thick, about 6 ounces each
  • 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Instructions

  • Pat the salmon steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with sea salt and black pepper.
  • Heat olive oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  • Place salmon steaks in the hot skillet, skin-side down if skin is on. Cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes to form a golden crust.
  • Flip the salmon gently using a spatula. Add butter, minced garlic, and lemon juice to the skillet. Baste the salmon with the melted butter and garlic mixture.
  • Cook salmon on the second side for 3-4 minutes until cooked through and flakes easily. Internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
  • Remove salmon from skillet and let rest for a minute before serving with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Marinate salmon in olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic for up to 30 minutes for enhanced flavor.
  • Use avocado oil instead of olive oil for a different taste.
  • Butter can be substituted with ghee or coconut oil for a dairy-free version.
  • Ensure salmon is fully thawed and patted dry for best searing results.
  • Avoid overcrowding the skillet to cook steaks evenly.
