Instructions

The Method for Salted Chocolate Covered Caramels

  • If you’re making homemade soft caramels, prepare them according to your favorite recipe. Allow the caramels to cool completely before cutting them into bite-sized pieces. If using store-bought caramels, simply unwrap them and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Set up your double boiler or microwave-safe bowl. If using a double boiler, fill the bottom pot with water and bring it to a simmer. Place the chocolate in the top pot, stirring occasionally until melted. If using a microwave, heat the chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.
  • Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each caramel into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Gently tap the fork against the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.
  • Carefully place the dipped caramels back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle a small pinch of sea salt on top of each caramel while the chocolate is still warm.
  • Allow the chocolate to set at room temperature, or place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to speed up the process. Once the chocolate is firm, your salted chocolate covered caramels are ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • Store caramels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • Freeze caramels in a single layer for up to 3 months and thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
  • For a festive twist, try adding chopped nuts or drizzle with white chocolate after setting.
