  • Large Skillet
  • Wooden Spoon

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 1 pound dried pasta Any short pasta like penne or rotini works well.

Ground Beef

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef You can use less if desired.

Vegetables

  • 1 medium yellow onion Thinly sliced.
  • 2 medium green bell peppers Sliced.
  • 8 ounces mushrooms Halved.

Cooking Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For browning the beef.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For sautéing the vegetables.
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour To thicken the sauce.
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup heavy cream Double cream in the UK.
  • 2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese Torn into pieces.

Garnish

  • fresh chopped parsley For garnish, optional.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Cook the dried pasta according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Once al dente, drain and set aside.
  • Step 2: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the ground beef and break it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer the beef to a plate and set aside.
  • Step 3: In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt. Toss in the sliced onion, green bell peppers, and mushrooms. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until softened and onions are caramelized.
  • Step 4: Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir to combine. Cook for another minute, then gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking continuously. Add Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and more salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Step 5: Once the sauce has thickened slightly, reduce heat and stir in the heavy cream. Allow to simmer for a few minutes until creamy. Add shredded pepper jack cheese, stirring until melted.
  • Step 6: Add the cooked pasta and browned beef back into the skillet. Toss until pasta is fully coated in the sauce. If too thick, add a splash of beef broth.
  • Step 7: Break provolone cheese slices into pieces and sprinkle over the top. Cover with a lid and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until melted.
  • Step 8: Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a dash of hot sauce. You can also experiment with different types of cheese.
