Equipment

  • Large baking dish (9x13 inches)
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula or spoon
  • Oven
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces marinara sauce 1 jar, about 3 cups
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese divided, about 12 ounces
  • 1 cup finely grated parmesan divided, about 4 ounces
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese 1 tub, about 2 cups
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 16 ounces lasagna noodles 1 box; broken into approximately 3-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 0.25 cup fresh minced parsley for garnish, if desired

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This step is crucial to ensure your lasagna bakes perfectly.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the parmesan cheese, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and set aside.
  • In your large baking dish, pour the marinara sauce and add 1 cup of water. Stir to combine. This will create a lovely sauce for our noodles to soak up as they cook.
  • Break the lasagna noodles into approximately 3-inch pieces and sprinkle them evenly over the sauce.
  • Dollop spoonfuls of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, spreading it out as best as you can. Follow this with a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese and additional marinara sauce.
  • Continue layering with the remaining broken noodles, ricotta mixture, marinara sauce, and top everything off with the remaining mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to keep that gooey cheese from burning) and bake for 30 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden.
  • Once baked, let the lasagna cool for about 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh minced parsley, if desired, and serve warm. Enjoy your effortless, cheesy delight!

Notes

  • Break lasagna noodles into uniform sizes for even cooking.
  • Adjust cheese quantities to your preference for extra cheesiness.
  • This recipe is forgiving; don’t stress about perfect layering!
  • Add Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes to the sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
