What is Nutritional Yeast?

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup sunflower oil or any neutral oil
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes optional

Instructions
 

  • In a large pot, pour in the sunflower oil and place it over medium heat. Allow the oil to heat up for a couple of minutes until it shimmers.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the popcorn kernels to the pot. Cover with the lid but leave it slightly ajar to allow steam to escape.
  • Shake the pot gently back and forth on the burner to ensure the kernels heat evenly. Keep shaking until the popping slows down to about 2-3 seconds between pops.
  • When the popping has slowed down, take the pot off the heat and let it sit for a minute to allow any remaining kernels to pop.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and nutritional yeast flakes. Drizzle this mixture over the popped corn, and sprinkle with sea salt. Toss thoroughly to ensure even coating.
  • Transfer the popcorn to a large serving bowl and enjoy your delicious, cheesy snack!

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute melted butter with plant-based butter.
  • Try different oils like coconut or avocado oil to vary the flavor.
  • Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature to keep it crisp for 1-2 days.
