Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Electric Mixer
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie scoop or tablespoon
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 24 Hershey's Kisses any flavor
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest for a citrusy twist

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your cookies bake evenly and come out perfectly golden.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and 3/4 cup of granulated sugar. Using an electric mixer, cream them together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Beat in one large egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix until well combined, ensuring everything is nicely blended.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/4 cups of all-purpose unbleached flour, 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in 2 teaspoons of orange zest to the cookie dough for a bright, citrusy flavor that complements the sweetness.
  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion out the dough and roll it into balls. Roll each ball in the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, coating them evenly.
  • Place the sugar-coated dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, gently press a Hershey's Kiss into the center of each cookie. The heat from the cookies will soften the chocolate, creating a deliciously gooey center.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy your delightful Sugar Cookie Blossoms with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!

Notes

  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can help prevent cookies from spreading too much.
  • Do not overmix the dough after adding flour to keep cookies soft and tender.
  • Press the chocolate kisses into the cookies immediately after baking to keep their shape.
  • You can substitute dairy-free butter and gluten-free flour for dietary needs.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze dough balls for longer storage.
